Why are there so many animal idioms?  動物の慣用句がたくさんあるなぁ

 

If you have ever had a dog or a cat, you would know that animals have a lot of personality. Although animals behave in ways that we could never imagine humans behaving, they sometimes remind us of ourselves. Can you imagine how the following idioms reminds you of that animal?

Definition

To pig out: to eat a lot of something

To pig out: 何かをたくさん食べること

Examples

Example 1: I pigged out on donuts, so I don’t have room for lunch.
ドーナツを食べ過ぎて、お昼ご飯を食べる余裕がないよ。

Smell a rat: To suspect someone is being dishonest or trying to harm you

Examples

Example 1: The man told me I could get rich in 3 easy steps, but I can smell a rat from a kilometer away.

 

Definition

Scaredy cat: Someone who gets scared easily

Examples

Example 1: Oh it’s just a spider, don’t be such a scaredy cat.
